So few places (at the price I can afford) do it today, it's a treat to experience it.Tinderboxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02024535748035181132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21554899.post-33957174533444515062011-09-12T14:25:33.537-07:002011-09-12T14:25:33.537-07:00A lot of old bar and grill type places were called...A lot of old bar and grill type places were called "cafe," so that may be it. Like The Station Cafe in Woodside (now with its new ugly awning, The Station Bar).

Or perhaps it's like in San Francisco, and Europe, where cafes were for food and drinking coffee or booze.Grade "A" Fancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17281571169895250252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21554899.post-31985074884138765722011-09-11T09:32:09.657-07:002011-09-11T09:32:09.657-07:00Was there ever a more charming and gracious host t...Was there ever a more charming and gracious host than Carlos? Sorely missed. Time to go back for a visit.

Up until about 1990, incredible as it seems now, El Parador was about the only Mexican restaurant in NYC. It certainly was the best of the few.

Loved the description of the beer-pouring ceremony. Why must so many Mexican restaurants presume we want to gulp directly out of long-necks, like some marijuana-smoking caballero in Culiacan?

You got the part right about the husbands and their chippies. In fact, the last time I was there, about a dozen years ago, I took my hot chippy who was wearing a mini-skirt without underwear that night. Those "room-darkening red light bulbs" serve their purpose well.Proud NIMBYnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21554899.post-24193481651935035742011-09-09T20:40:07.368-07:002011-09-09T20:40:07.368-07:00I meant Working Girls as in the Melanie Griffith f...I meant Working Girls as in the Melanie Griffith film. But you're right. It could easily be misconstrued.
