I've often noticed these incongruous caryatids looking down on the hoards of Soho shoppers from number 542-544 Broadway. Building was erected back in 1864. Hard to know what the architect or owner had in mind. Perhaps the preservation of the then war-torn union. Nice to have them up there, though. Also, it's fun to say "caryatids."
