Funny, but not that strange. I worked as a stock clerk in Macy's Herald Square store in the mid 1970s, and there were plenty of "greasy spoons" across from the loading docks on West 35th St. I spent many a morning on break. The typical breakfast was 2 eggs with bacon and a tallboy of Budweiser. I think most of those places have closed now.
