217 Court Street Is Coming Down

The yellow cordoning tape was up, the construction workers at the ready, the crane on site, the surveyors surveying and dozens of locals were gawking outside the Coffee Peddlar early this morning (including actress Hope Davis!), all to await the fate of 217 Court Street, the vacant building in Cobble Hill that partially collapsed yesterday. A section of Court Street was blocked off by police, causing horrendous traffic.

The word from the surveyors is: It's coming down! Has to come down. No choice. Too damaged. The constant rain was the likely culprit.
