The other day, passing by Savoy, the fine SoHo restaurant at the corner of Prince and Crosby, I noticed, encased in plexiglass at the eatery's corner, an old metal column painted to look like a barber's pole.
It did not look fabricated. The paint looked very old indeed. Was Savoy's space once a barber shop many decades ago? On the wall was a framed tax photo of the building which showed it once housed Crosby Lunch. So the barber shop would have had to have been there before or after the lunch counter. I'm guessing before. (The place where the pillar is is covered with corrugated metal in the photo.)
