Court Street Dealers

Found this shot on a Face Book page devoted to Carroll Gardens' past. Half of me thinks this must be a photoshop joke. But this 1978 picture seems to indicate that something called the Las Vegas School of Dealing occupied the building now taken by Union Market on Court Street. Before Union Market came it was a Blockbuster, and before that a kind of musty old clothing store. Can this be real? Bizarre.

  1. No, it's not. That was a children's center/school for many years.

  2. Are you sure? I know the big building to the left has been a children's center for many years.

  3. I wonder if this was set up to train people to work in Atlantic City - gambling started there in 77 or 78, I think.

  4. what robert said. he's right. there were a number of these kinds of places that cropped up all over the northeast back then. those of us of a certain age find the shock and surprise at seeing one fairly amusing....
