Where Painted Wall Ads Still Mean Something
In New York City, circa 2009, if you see a large painted advertisement on the side of a building, you can pretty much take for granted that, 9 times out of 10, it's for a business that is long defunct.
Not so on Diamond Row in Midtown. Above you see a painted ad for Dyckman's jewelers. And what business do you find directly below the old ad? Dyckman's jewelers!
Further down the street, a painted ad for Ross Refiners can easily be seen. Operating out of the ground floor of that building? Ross Refiners!
Amazing how it works.
