Last fall I visited the old, rather unfortunate, but oddly touching open-air mall known as
Newkirk Plaza, which is perched forlornly above the Newkirk Avenue subway station. An artist named
Nina Talbot recently contacted me to let me know that she had devoted an entire painting cycle to the independent vendors of the sagging, chipping, bedraggled plaza. Here are a couple of them, alongside my photos. Maybe it's me, but Sasha doesn't look like he'd be very happy to serve me.
