Oh, Sweet Jesus

Must we endure a JC Penney? I know we already have Target and K-Mart and IKEA and other such embarrassing chain department stores. But, I don't know, it just seems like such a step down for the City. All right, call me a snob. Fine. I don't care. But New York just keeps getting tackier and tackier.

Yes you are a snob, but who can blame you? JC Penney is definitely tacky, but New York has always has its tacky stores–Orbachs (Oh, Orbachs! the commercial went), Kleins, and Mays, among others. At least they were uniquely New York and they all disappeared, one by one. Now the world is just one big giant shopping mall where everything is the same.
