A Peek Inside Manganaro
Greenwich Village Daily Photo has a nice photo essay on the old Manganaro Grosseria Italiana on Ninth Avenue. Wonder how he got the nice inside shots without one of the irrascable staff bashing his head in.

Brooks, funny you mentioned the staff. Sal is a prince, he would've talked to me forever. Cool guy. But we went back two weekends ago, and a woman behind the counter (Sal's sister?) demanded my girlfriend eat (okay, I understand that) then when I returned 20 minutes after the meal for a gelato she says "What are you hanging around for?" I was stunned. Lesson: yack it up with Sal, but be prepared for his other half. I think she means well..
