Red Hook to Get Lobster Rolls
Brownstoner previously reported the news that Red Hook's Lobster Pound would open this summer at 284 Van Brunt Street. It's run by Susan Povich and Ralph Gorham, who, every week, drive up to Maine and come back with a load of fresh shellfish for sale. Which sounds like a great job to me.
Now Sarah Schmerler reports on her new blog that Gorham is "about to install a kitchen and serve Lobster Rolls to passers-by for $13 a pop," which is kinda really extremely exciting, at least to a Clam Shack junkie like me.
Gorham is apparently a woodworker by trade. He has his shop next door. He builds furniture out of recycled wood in his shop. He actualy built the wooden, rubber-lined tubs which hold the lobsters.
No arrival date yet for the rolls. Hurry, guys. I have no money for a New England vacation this year. So bring the Clam Shack to me!

In the meantime, definitely check them out at Brooklyn Flea -- I believe they're at both the Ft Greene one on Saturdays and the DUMBO one on Sundays.
Can't wait. By the way, that sorta-new restaurant on Van Brunt called Kevin's gets their lobsters from the Red Hook Lobster pound. If you are in the mood for a steamed lob right now. (With two sides. I think it was about $24. BYOB.)
I had one at the Brooklyn Flea in DUMBO--an excellent lobster roll, and a steal at $13!
I'm glad for you. Do you know whether they will be serving whole lobsters too?
Lobster Pound starts selling the rolls next week, straight from the store.
btw: that guy Kevin, across the street, hung art on the restaurant walls when he first opened that was better than most of the stuff in the Red Hook galleries. Haven't been back since. Do you know the painter's name?
