Wedding Coach Rides Outa Town

Wedding Coach, a bridal supplies store on 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst, has apparently gotten divorced from active business.

The store was empty and gutted upon recent inspection. The business was founded in 1964 and dealt in wedding invitations, tuxedos and "favors." It had a great name as well.

One commenter notes: "I can tell you that 15 years ago this was THE place to go throughout brooklyn for all things wedding and bridal showers -- including "naughty" items for the shower. It was the only place to rent the necessary wishing well and rattan chairs for the wedding. It was worth the hourlong train ride from the Heights just to get there. I think weddings have changed as well as the demographic -- now with digital photos and DVDs handed out at the end of the night, there is less need for engraved glass ashtrays or boxes of confetti almonds."

This long time business closing is another sign of the changing demographic in the Bensonhurst area. Similar to your earlier post regarding the now defunct Trunzo Meat Market. The crowd that long patronized both establishments is dwindling and certainly aging ,unlikely to be in the market for wedding favors.

And the phone number was only one digit off from ours (I won't say which). At least my mother won't have to answer their "wrong numbers" anymore.
