The Weirdest Looking Development Site in New York

How long have we been waiting now for the MTA to finish construction on the "Big Stair" complex leading up to the No. 7 Court House Square station? A year? Two? An eon?

The thing, proceeding at a glacial pace, is finally starting to take shape. And I'll be goddamned if it's not the weirdest shape in all of constructiondom. It has the look of a set built for a Ridley Scott film, or "Transformers III." It resembled something NASA might use to launch human life onto Mars, Medieval catapult-style. It looks freaking bizarre. This thing's going to lurch to life one fine day. Some sci-fi filmmaker should take advantage of the scene while its still at this stage.

This is what it's supposed to look like when it's done, by the way. Pretty sleek for gritty old Long Island City. The only thing it'll match is the Citibank tower.

…and how many minutes before the escalator breaks. Anything will be better than the marathon you have to run to transfer from the G to the 7 while the construction continues.

AND HOW WILL THEY KEEP ALL THAT GLASS CLEA, REPAIRED AND SCRATCHITTI FREE?

Match the ugly Citibank building at least. And the Vere condo. And the Credit Union building.

Glass glass everywhere!
